Julia Stevenson

REGISTERED PSYCHOLOGIST

BA, GradDip(Psych); GradCert (Family Therapy); MAAPi; MAPS

Julia is a registered psychologist with over 20 years’ experience. She has completed a Bachelor of Arts, a Graduate Diploma in Psychology, and a Graduate Certificate in Family Therapy. Julia works with adolescents, adults, and parents presenting with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, emotional challenges, poor self-esteem, loss, grief, and trauma.

Julia brings a sense of humour, compassion, respect, and honesty to her work. She takes a person-centred and strengths-based approach, seeing each client as whole beings with the internal resources to navigate their own healing. Julia supports her clients to make meaning of their lived experiences and become curious about their symptoms, rather than be afraid or judgemental of them. By supporting her clients to look deeper into their interpretations, emotions, and behaviours she empowers them to gain a better understanding of themselves and the world around them. This, along with developing practical strategies to better manage mental health challenges, creates lasting positive change that will permeate throughout many areas of her client’s life.

Julia carefully considers the most appropriate therapeutic approach to best meet each client’s presentation and therapeutic needs. Julia is experienced in working with several therapeutic approaches including psychodynamic therapy (PDT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, solution focused therapy, family informed therapy, and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT). Julia’s framework for her therapeutic intervention is attachment based.

Julia holds her registration with the Australian Board of Psychology and is a member of the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPi) and the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
